Finding the right foundation is so important as it leads the way for the rest of your makeup. I’ve been through so many different brands of foundations because the companies either discontinue the shade or changed it in someway!
Lets face it, we have all had our fair share of failed attempts when it comes to foundations! Pan-stick anyone? Nobody wants to look orange. The key is to look effortlessly flawless!
Many people ask me what foundation are you wearing? This constantly changes depending on the time of year or if I am wearing tan. I’m extremely pale without foundation and this can make it really difficult to find the right shade.
Here are some tips to remember!
When testing a shade of foundation out apply a small amount to your jawline. The shade that disappears in to your skin is the best match.
Knowing your skin tone is also important to finding the right shade to suit your skin tone. Don’t panic if you are unsure which skin tone you are. Here is a simple trick. Look at the veins on your wrist. If they are blue or purple then your cool, if they are green or olive then your warm and if they are a mix then you are neutral.
Rose, tawny or beige tones work best for a cool undertone.
Taupe, caramel or golden tones work best for a warm undertone.
Praline, nude or ivory tones work best for a neutral undertone.
If you have oily skin then use an oil-free or matte finish foundation.
If you have a drier skin type then use a more hydrating/ moisturizing foundation.
If you have combination skin type then try a powdered foundation.
If you have an uneven complexion then go with a foundation that has a medium to full coverage and if you have a more even complexion than go with a lighter natural shade.
Don’t be fooled when it comes to SPF! Most companies have added spf into their foundations but this dilutes the sun protection. My advice is use a separate spf with your foundation. This way you are sure of protection against UVA and UVB rays!
